Apple’s new slogan should be “act different.”

Today, we informed Apple of our preliminary view that its App Store rules are in breach of the Digital Markets Act, as they prevent app developers from freely steering consumers to alternative channels for offers and content.

We also opened a new non-compliance procedure over concerns that its new contractual requirements for third-party app developers and app stores fall short of ensuring effective #DMA compliance.

@EUCommission

This crap again? I don't care for third party app stores. All I care about as a consumer is secure devices that focus on my privacy. The EU can't guarantee such products so I don't care what the EU thinks is best for me.

I want to be able to use Apple Intelligence as it is designed by Apple in the EU so make that happen!

@SebastienK @EUCommission
not a good argument. Apple devices still have vulnerabilities. Using third party app stores is optional so if you find them insecure, just don't use them. Allowing third party stores provides more freedom with what you can do with the device.

More freedom and the same level of security seems like a win, no?

@solstice
until some developer I depend on like banks and other data hungry bitches decides I will need an alternative app store or take my business elsewhere because they want my data 🙄

@EUCommission

@SebastienK @solstice @EUCommission

Well then maybe don't use the banking app or switch banks if your bank behaves like this.

That you trust a private corporation more than you trust the government to enforce proper privacy regarding private data is the issue here. The government is elected by us to, supposedly, work for us. We should have more faith in our government than in Apple/Microsoft/whoever. I also don't have much faith in my government but I neither have faith in Apple to behave according to my interests. Rather the opposite.

Ideally I'd like a completely free and open system where I can have full control and choose who to trust. That's what I think governments should enforce.

@saligari you prefer what you prefer. I prefer the things I trust the most and that ain't the EU government anymore.

Since XZ you don't have to sell me open source as a safe alternative. That entire story is still hard to grasp
@solstice @EUCommission

@SebastienK @solstice @EUCommission It's clear that you see yourself as a consumer first and a citizen second (if that).

In a world where so much is out of our control I suppose for many it makes sense to choose a "benevolent" dictator.

@saligari By the way you try to silence me it’s clear to me you choose dictatorship. I see myself as a not represented citizen.

And my concern is security. Something the EU already multiple times failed to deliver so excuse me for finally starting to have a closer look at how the EU is fucking us over every time 🙄

@solstice @EUCommission

@SebastienK @solstice @EUCommission
I try to silence you? Really? By disagreeing with you?

Even if for humor, you wrote "non-Apple users should not be allowed on the internet".

People criticising EU chat control plans were talking as citizens. BTW does CSAM ring any bells? You answer me like I'm against you on a personal level because I disagree with you. You just sound like a bad, tasteless joke.

I'm sorry but I can't have a dialogue with you. Good morning.

@saligari yes that was humor 🙄

People criticising chat control and turning a blind eye to the DMA don’t seem smart citizens to me 🤷🏽‍♂️

@solstice @EUCommission

@SebastienK @solstice @EUCommission I don't think Apple is pro privacy and I won't stand against any action against their closed systems.

Ideally they'd be forced to allow entirely different OSs like they do on their laptops rather than just a store.

@saligari It's you that is not pro privacy. I tried open source so don't come telling me what to use nor should the EU.

Why can't people just stop pretending to know what is best for others?
I know what is best for me and that surely ain’t Linux. What is best for me is a closed system that I can trust.

@solstice @EUCommission

@SebastienK @saligari @EUCommission

The entire discussion started with you saying you don't want third party app stores and me pointing out that you don't have to use them if you want. So I wasn't trying to force you to use them. If you prefer a closed system, well don't open it up with third party app stores or changing the os. I prefer an open system and I'll be opting in to use them. I'm not pretenting to know what's best for you, I'm just poining out that there are more options which will satisfy more users and arguably is more pro-consumer.

@solstice is this like a loop or something? Do I again have to start repeating what I already repeated yesterday?

You don't agree with me that's fine but stop pushing your culty open source narrative on me. There are no other options for me.

Don't you wonder why I am not trying to convert you to Mac?

@saligari @EUCommission

@SebastienK @solstice @EUCommission Why are you pinging me?

I stopped answering for a reason. If I weren't clear enough for you, open source/free software I believe is the only ethical software and all governments should be pushing towards it or at the very least push so that devices are not locked down like all of Apple mobile.

Nothing cult-y about my rhetoric, only one who is behaving like so is you, defending Apple as some force of good and even joking about non-Apple users.

Please don't ping/answer to me again.
