Nothing says "capitalism" like Silicon Valley sucking up to dictators... https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/05/14/middle-east-ai-tech-companies-saudi-arabia-uae/
How the authoritarian Middle East became the capital of Silicon Valley

Virtually overnight, the Middle East has emerged as the most powerful geopolitical force in the tech industry, due in part to the Biden administration’s fears about China.

@dangillmor This is indeed a controversial point of view. Capitalism does have the potential to collude with authoritarian regimes. However, I do not think this fully represents the essential characteristics of capitalism. In the long run, the capitalist economic system has also brought many positive developments to mankind, such as improving productivity and promoting technological innovation.

@Lisa198605 @dangillmor "Merchants of Doubt" explains how this strategy is used to derail discussions by casting doubts on facts (used by BigTobacco, Fossil Fuel, several others).

Capitalism has done more to impede technological progress. All industries have examples. For starters you could begin with how MS has helped retard IT tech since its beginning. I won't help you with the reasearch. Pease do not ask for links.

@prasoon @dangillmor This is a very insightful point you raise. We need to be wary of the monopoly and conservative tendencies of some companies under capitalism, which may hinder technological innovation and harm the long-term development of the entire industry.

@Lisa198605

Interestingly, it is not just a few companies which engage in monopolistic and conservative practices. Capitalism promotes these practices; business schools teach them.
The only way to ensure that this does not happen is by regulating these privateers.

@prasoon I would love to continue discussing this with you. Unfortunately I don't use this app very often. If you don't mind, you can add me on WhatsApp. We can discuss more on WhatsApp. Thank you. +44 7301 444870
