yoo does anyone who was at @emf know anything about the inflatable tentacles around the site or the inflatable plants in null sector? I wanna know what material they were made from and how they were made 🥺 #emfcamp #emfcamp2024

@leyrer @z What do you want to know ?

The fabric is not fancy, any proofed polyester or nylon will do. Just has to be strong enough and airtight.

We use a fireproof one but if you're not doing public events you don't need to.

They're just sewn together. Again, nothing fancy.

@jarkman Ahh brill thank you!! Do you use anything to seal the seams like tape or heat sealing?
And what sort of blower/fan do you use to inflate them?

@z no, the seams do leak a bit but we use far, far more air for actuation than we leak.

The blowers are commercial bouncy castle blowers, usually, they have the right kind of pressure and flow rate.

What kind of thing are you thinking of making?

@jarkman I'm not completely sure yet. something small to begin with, like the tentacles that were on poles at EMF.
if that goes well, maybe something bigger, like some kind of dome or other structure? maybe something involving projection mapping? idk xD

@z :-) Good luck! I like the sound of the projection mapping.

One thing to know is that the stress in the fabric is proportional to the diameter of the inflated thing, so as you go to bigger things you need more reinforcement or stronger fabric.

@jarkman that's very useful to know thank you. i would not have thought of that haha.
@z Oh, you would have learned it soon enough... :-)
