didn't you know?
"religious freedom" means my "freedom" to cram my religion down your throat
@HamonWry interesting.

And religion, at least the judeo-christian religion I am most familiar with, does not in anyway believe in democracy. They don't believe in change in our understanding, opposed a sun centered solar system, opposed and still do oppose evolution by natural selection, and basically still believe that all wisdom is ancient, inspired by God, and perfect.
They generally believe that the common people are prone to sin and easily misled by the devil, and that they are...

....surrounded by godless heathens. Except of course "the chosen by God" who get bonus credibility by supernatural selection, which allows their arguments to not need the consent of the common people.
I grew up in America, was taken to church regularly, went to a religious elementary and middle school - nothing was anti-American in that time, but I can see how they could claim to be "pro-American" as in people and institutions that they control, while being antidemocratic.

Yeah, I see this. There is nothing about the religion I grew up in that needs or respects the wisdom of the people, and frankly they don't really want consent, only obeyance.
I haven't felt it for most presidents, but I can see how evangelicals might be turned against voting when they don't control it. Get your guy in, do away with voting.
Same as Russian Orthodox Christian support for Putin. First they feel boosted by the dictator's support, then they are controlled by him.
@justsusan @HamonWry
These people are not acting like Christ. They're inspired by fear and hatred, not love and kindness.
If they are Christian, they're the Inquisition kind of Christian.
People lash out when they're anxious. We'd do well to remember this.
Think about it, though. The main dudes have just been caught with their pants down.
I'll use that in the future, if it's okay.
It's so true and profound.
@otownKim @HamonWry The Kibbutznik Carpenter from Natz'ret made me a leftist.

If the Carpenter walked into Joel Osteen's 'church', he would be overturning their merchandise tables, and chasing them with a whip...
