I like your explanations. I think that rules like guiding the viewer's gaze and the classic image division (golden ratio, etc.) are a great help when you're starting out. For me, creativity begins when I learn to deal creatively with these image composition principles. This also includes breaking these rules. I completely agree with you there. As you write, I also think it's important to pay attention to things that appear at the edge of a scene and that may intrude unattractively into the photo. And the play of light and shadow, contrast and transition: that's photography at its best.
