@harriettmb @sinabhfuil the whole situation/outcome is astonishing...

To think, it's 2024... We're still in the dark ages.

I don't know whom to blame... upbringing, social media... there are several possibilities.

When I was growing up, awful things happened that weren't talked of, swept under the carpet (still impact me). My daughter has told me things from her time at school (2003 >) where boys blatantly misbehaved with no/few consequences.

Will it ever change? If so, what will it take?

@TalktoBeverley @harriettmb You've put your finger on it. There are certain situations where judges give no real consequences: most of being a violent man, if you haven't been caught before; also being a dangerous driver
@sinabhfuil @TalktoBeverley @harriettmb It's the idea that a good work reference and impact on employment prospects are somehow weighed up against this level of violence that I find so depressing.
@d_mathieson @sinabhfuil @TalktoBeverley @harriettmb not just ireland, met police officer convicted of rape and murder got good character statements from his bosses and colleagues to try and alleviate sentencing.
@Thebratdragon @d_mathieson @TalktoBeverley @harriettmb In one case in Ireland people lined up in the courthouse to shake the hand of the abuser
