In the annals of the most disgusting things done during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is now at the top of my list. It is odious.

@gregggonsalves
RU did the same, spreading FUD about western vaccines abroad and internally. Backfired badly - population refused to vaccinate once RU started production of its own vaccines and they had to fake statistics.
@gregggonsalves in a way makes us realise or reminds us there are no „good“ ones, politics a dirty business, but we still profit daily from past and current horrendous exploitations, inequalities
@Kaetchi @gregggonsalves this isn’t politics, it’s literally a psychological operation that State Department staff tried to stop. They normally would’ve been able to, but the Trump administration had basically declared war on China, so different rules were in place.
@tweetsjen @gregggonsalves it does not matter what you call it, it still happens and I am sure there is more and not just US🤷🏽‍♀️
@Kaetchi @gregggonsalves words have meaning, so I do think what it is called matters. The US has now changed the policy on what’s allowed, if you actually read the article you’d know that this kind of general psychological operation isn’t allowed any longer. Yes, other countries do engage in this, but it doesn’t mean the US should or that it is part of normal politics. Please don’t try to normalize terrible things or lower the standard of what’s acceptable or reasonable, it’s a false equivalency
@tweetsjen @gregggonsalves sigh, if I could believe we all keep standards that would be really great, unfortunately I am past that point, but I guess we can all hope standards will be kept in politics and elsewhere that would be great, 😩not sure if you have followed UK politics recently🤞🏾🤞🏾perhaps change is on its way
@Kaetchi I just told you that the US responded by greatly limiting psychological operations and what they can be used for, which is stated in the article. Also, that you know about this because a report done by the US shows a commitment to standards. I don’t follow UK politics closely enough to speak on them, but I can tell you that trying to paint all sides as the same is lazy and reductive. Please read the entire article before tagging me again.
@gregggonsalves the headline is gross, but all the details on how it was allowed to happen are worse. Even FB tried to stop it! The NSA issued a stop order after Biden was inaugurated by April 2021, yet the anti-vax messaging continued through the summer of 2021. General Dynamics IT was the main contractor, the report says they wrote things outside the scope of the operation and they were just awarded another contract. Hope everyone involved in this gets reamed.
