@ADailyViolet 😌 Thank you! It was a busy morning with back to back meetings required bunstruction!

BunMum is hoping there isn’t a sugar shortage again this year. There had been something in the news last year about a strike but she actually suspects @Byronrabbit was hogging all the sugar with the ten thousand hummers they have down east 🇨🇦😏…

@Satori @ADailyViolet Guilty! Will leave a kilo or 2 on the shelves so you all have enough. They're doing their U dances these days. One goes very low, under the hammock, then very high. A catch for sure ❤️ If you don't get hummers, want some European hornets? Almost as big, tons of them this year. Alien but not invasive.

@Byronrabbit @ADailyViolet 🤣 How very generous of you…

Gosh, those dances must be cute.

As for the European hornets, ah..

@Satori @Byronrabbit @ADailyViolet

My neighbour says he's seen the "Asian murder hornets" in his yard. Just in case you see something weird...

Giant hornets are here — but they're not the ones you might think | CBC News

Recent sightings of abnormally large hornets has sparked concerns among some people that they're the feared 'murder hornets.' But while the bugs may be big, they're actually a species that's been in Ontario for more than a century, experts say.

@Byronrabbit @cazabon @ADailyViolet Yikes! We are seeing a lot of wasps and hornets here but nothing too big. It’s a bit unusual timing, they usually peak in late August/Sept/Oct…
@Satori @cazabon @ADailyViolet Climate change? The arugula is starting to bolt and it's not even July. There's a European hornet who lurks in the back porch (closed on 3 sides, 4 steps down to freedom). He can't find the way out, I help him, then a few hours later he's back.

@Byronrabbit @cazabon @ADailyViolet Stubborn! Hey, if you’re there, something good has gotta be going down on that porch! We helped out a mosquito eater the other night. BunMum’s a pro with the ol’ catch and release trick. 😎

That’s quite shocking about the arugula. We are still hitting 5C at night here and veggies are not pleased. I’ve been growing wicked ghost peppers and watermelon (yellow) in the house for months and other than a visit or two outside during the day they’re still inside..!

@Satori @cazabon @ADailyViolet Wow, that's chilly. Poor watermelon. Ghost peppers, brave! We're bracing for a heat wave next week, low 30s for several days. So, all windows and curtains closed during the day, all open at night. A portable AC if needed and the lake to cool off, but humidity will still be uncomfortable.
@Byronrabbit @cazabon @ADailyViolet Gosh, that’s warm. Mind you I find 25C+ warm 🤣. (Meanwhile Violet’s human in cactus land is probably chuckling). The windows and curtains strategy really do help for us, too. The tough time is 4-7 pm, we find. Skye hasn’t needed the A/C yet, thankfully, as running it is so expensive. Note that we are a distant afterthought in the A/C consideration…🤣
@Satori @cazabon @ADailyViolet AC is an emergency measure here too. Got it originally for Rousseau. Forecast says 38C humidex, ugh. Doing chores that take effort today. Fans, spritz bottles, bathing suits ready. At least cactusland doesn't have ridiculous humidity. Ohio Valley was horrible for humidity, stayed for days and it got hotter than here, triple digits Fahrenheit. Still, we survived.
@Byronrabbit @cazabon @ADailyViolet Ugh. Hang in there and stay safe ❤️. It was humid and we were sweating while cleaning and vacuuming today and it was gross, we were gross. It wasn’t even hot- maybe hit 15? 🤣 After such bone dry winters it’s odd to feel humidity again.
@Satori @cazabon @ADailyViolet Two more days of this. A dip in the lake helps. For about 15 minutes...
@Byronrabbit @cazabon @ADailyViolet Wow! And here we have our second straight night with a risk of frost… 😯 Apparently we will hit 27 for two days on the weekend and then shoot back down, hopefully that’s not our summer and then it’s over…
@Satori @cazabon @ADailyViolet That watermelon better grow fast in 2 days. It's not just the physical discomfort with the extremes, but the mental worry that it can only get worse in the future.

@Byronrabbit @cazabon @ADailyViolet 🤣🤣🤣 One day down, one to go. No blooms yet. .. Today better be productive! 🍉

I’m trying ground cherries this year, too. They seem traumatized by the extremes but there are two tiny cherries growing.. the extremes are really hard on my garden. Many of my pepper leaves are actually white, just in complete shock. I’m offering counselling services..

@Satori @cazabon @ADailyViolet you're a veggie whisperer!
