Spent this evening attaching a few badges to a blanket.

I have many to add, and after talking with my wife it was agreed that I should pin them in place to get an idea for the layout, then wonderweb them, the machine sew them in (I am _useless_ at sewing).

Got quite a buzz from sewing them on, after wonderwebbing and re pinning them all I only managed to sew 16 before deciding it’s time for bed!

16 badges left (out of the current batch!)
Managed to sew 20 while my son was napping

First round done!

County and district badges I’ve been a part of down the right arm, group badges down the left. Welsh dragons on the shoulders, and of course the Scout membership badge on the left breast.

On the back is an arrangement of my old Beaver, Cub, and Scout badges (along with a few non-Scouting ones) to look a bit like the fleur de lis ⚜️

I love how it looks so far. It’s not perfectly done, but I’m a sewing n00b!

There is still more to do, old camp specific badges, badges from countries and towns I’ve visited, a few badges I collected as part of the 2007 centenary jamboree (apparently I didn’t take a photo of these), and a couple of #scoutadelic badges I received for appearing on their YouTube channel.

It’s been a fun project and I hope to find time to add these badges to the blanket soon!

Mostly placement this evening, front lower left will be my collection of badges from the 2007 centenary jamboree.
The large centre badge was recently given to me by my Dad, some of the others are centenary badges, and the rest were acquired from the badge swap tent - which was a lot of fun from what I remember.

Only sewed three of them on this evening - more tomorrow 🤞

Added the last cluster of Scouting badges last night and finished them this afternoon. They are all related to camps or Scouting events I’ve been to or been involved with.

I’ve collected badges from various places I’ve visited, so they will be the last to go on, but I need to play around with arrangement I think.

And the last of the badges I have here have been sewn on.

It was a lovely project and I’ll miss sitting down and doing it.

Some more details are in the images alt texts.

@forquare I’ve seen a few examples of blankets and I love the way you’ve grouped those. ⚜️

As I wasn’t in Scouts as a kid most of those I have are blanket badges, but I’ve already amassed a lot and I’ve had fun trying layouts. I’ll hopefully get back to my blanket next week. All I’ve done so far is add a button and hoop to latch over it. It’s all reversible so I can restore it to an intact travel rug again if I want.

@hischeekiness thank you!

I do have another blanket which is had always meant to sew badges on, but at this point I’ve come to rely on it as a roll mat so bought a new one.

I do with I’d considered fastening options more - I feel I was a little hasty in cutting a hole, and kind of wish I’d gone for more of a cloak look.

However will look forward to seeing yours if you ever share it 😊
