Line, not much in English about it. But it's the proprietary app in Asia that most needs Freedom Rivals (alternatives)? It's good that I'm finally getting acquainted with [matrix] and Element etc. Maybe it's good to keep Public Posting Shares and Private Message shares separate!? Could avoid social and technical problems?
> Line is the most popular messaging application in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.

Line's Wikipedia page tells me they use HBase (free software) and then sends me to their github repos. The two repos I saw so far show Apache licenses... Is Line Free Software?? I've just been assuming it's a proprietary corporate behemoth Leviathian... You know, a typical corporation... But it's hard to avoid here, for now, even with local community building... Years ago I heard during install the app gets all your contacts and sends them messages that you've started with Line.
What sort of license rights are set up around sharing photos and text through Line? No one seems interested enough to try anything outside of "Insta" and "Line" and FB... Gotta find a way around this need for a "massive marketing campaign" in order to seem worthy.
> Because it was tailored to #JapaneseConsumers' tastes and offered free smartphone calls as well as texting, with the help of a massive marketing campaign it quickly outpaced its existing rival #KakaoTalk for the Japanese market.

> Line originally started life as a response to the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami so people could communicate during the disaster. Since then, it’s become Japan’s largest social network...

> You can also allow the Line app to auto-add your friends using your existing contacts and choose whether you want to allow other users to add you.

How to use Line

It’s easy to love Line

TechRadar

> Line also predicts what stickers you might use depending on what you type, making embellishing a conversation simple and easy.
...
> Like WhatsApp, Line is tied to the device you’re currently using. If you switch to a new phone and log in to Line, you’ll no longer be able to use the app on your old device..

[matrix] provides a definite plus here... You can use it from all sorts of devices.. Is Line really limited to one device? Really don't want to see stickers that an app predicts for me...
