My dad was a child refugee in Nazi-occupied France from age 7-10 before immigrating to the U.S. I'm grateful for the kindness, generosity and courage of all those who helped him and enabled our family's survival.

Today, World Refugee Day, millions of people are striving to reach safe haven. Whatever your religion, ethnicity, nationality, or politics, the experience of being a refugee is universal. Let's greet them with empathy, kindness and generosity. They're not the other. They are us.

En ce temps-là, les amis de certains des fondateurs du FN/RN étaient au pouvoir en France. Pensez-y en votant le 30 juin et le 7 juillet !

@KarlSchwartz Plutôt deux fois qu’une, même !

@jmechner

@jmechner my mother was not a refugee, but did spend her early years in occupied France during Ww2. Her father fought for the French during WW1. So many of us have no idea what war does to the people of impacted regions, and it’s worse than we imagine.
@jmechner Indeed and most of the time its a few deranged individuals at the helm who create such conditions #history #refugee https://traffic.libsyn.com/yinhistory/EP20-Refugee_Crisis.mp3
@jmechner thank you for sharing this. Interestingly enough, there is a small chance that your father saw or interacted with my grandfather. To protect the location of his unit’s location (signal corps) they actually stayed in local residences in France and Belgium instead of in a field camp.
