In spring 2024, US government regulations reportedly changed so Wi-Fi connected pellet smokers can no longer use their “official apps” to remotely start up. This was apparently done for safety reasons to prevent accidental backyard fires.

Using this Reddit thread, I learned that RecTeq grill owners can alternatively configure the “SmartLife app” to remotely control RecTeq Wi-Fi
