I've just ordered one of these. My first motorbike.

OK, not exactly a motorbike, although that's what I'm calling it ;-)

Picking it up from Malaga on July 5th.

Can't wait!

Not electric ?

@EA7KRC Nha, no range, c60-80k. And that's with a normal size person onboard and no hills.

Factor in me, and the hills around my place in Spain and that'll drop to c30. A friend there has one and says it's a complete waste of time.

Plus, the emopeds still have the small wheels, which I hate.

@Steveb
Aye fair enough and charge times measured in hours.
Having said that, our local bank manager has a small electric bike and its costing cents/kilometer

@EA7KRC I'm a big fan of electric transport. I've an ebike and electric scooter as my main forms of transport.

I'm less convinced that electric cars are a solution for anything other than propping up the car industry. Personally, I'd rather see a massive reduction in car use, opposed to just using a different form of energy to propel them.

Emotorbikes I don't know enough about to really have an opinion.

@Steveb
Me too and your right, we need to get away from personal car ownership.
Ive looked a bit at ebikes but a €1000 bike isn't happening

@EA7KRC

I know, they are silly money. And €1k won't get you much. You need to double that to get something worth putting money into. Even then, it's not going to be great. €3k is the benchmark for a good ebike from a reputable brand with a good mid-mount motor.

That has nothing to do with the cost of materials, and everything has to do with a global bike industry that is completely inefficient and dysfunctional at most levels.

@EA7KRC To put things in context...

My ebike in Ireland had an rrp of £3800. In Spain, I did consider one, but they are even more expensive.

The 125 motorbike I've just ordered was €2900 including registration, plates, two helmets and a top box. And both me and my wife can use it together to get about. Insurance is €200 per year. It gets about 100mpg.

@Steveb
Ah that is well out of my price range, so I must continue with the car

@EA7KRC

Same for most.

eCars are out of the reach of most private owners too. Over 50% of the people in my street have them now, but all are company cars. And the drivers get massive tax cuts for selecting electric over fossil.

My thinking is the government want these cars sold off at 3 years which will then feed the 2nd hand market. But by then many of the batteries will be getting old, so not too attractive to buyers.

I think there is a huge issue coming with dead ecars at 5-8years old.

@Steveb
Its an immature tech in cars, it will be decades before its reliable, decades we dont have
