Wild harvest in urban Vientiane of a seasonal delicacy - lychee giant stink bugs. Despite the extremely pungent odor - to the point that latex gloves must be worn when handling them - they are prized for the flavor they give to jeow, a spicy dip served with many meals.
I consider myself pretty open-minded with food, but after a single tasting I can confirm that stink bug dip is definitely not my thing.
