Afternoon drinking with my spouse. Visited a bar with a wall that opens for ventilation. Strike up a conversation with the guy next to us. Cautiously mentioned we're still COVID cautious, holding my breath for his reaction. Turns out his wife died last year from #COVID19.

There are so many stories that aren't being told. People are not hearing about people with Long COVID, the mutation rate, the rise of dangerous variants, or that more than 400 Americans have died for 221 straight weeks.

@augieray
So sad.
But this week is less than 400, I saw today. At least officially...

@EllieK That is not correct. If you only look at the official CDC tally, it is less than 400. BNO News, however, tallies state reports and has found that death rates are higher than the CDC counts.

@augieray i didnt realise covid was even still a thing before joining Mastodon, in Australia its never even talked about anymore. Only change ive noticed has stayed is when unwell u wear a mask when going to doctors.
@ranmack Weird to hear Australia never talks about it considering the considerable surge you've recently experiened!
@augieray ah ok, did we have a surge? The way the general population acts here, ud think it never happened
@ranmack @augieray yeah k Germany it’s out of most mainstream media too the new hot topic is Palastine and Ukraine and when you ask people they talk like it’s over
@Yaminosenshi @augieray those wars are kinda ignored here too, mostly. Many protesting re Palestine and Israel though. But mainstream media from what ive seen ignores both for the most part.
@ranmack @augieray I follow someone from Australia that posts Covid case updates regularly. The numbers are still there, but government and business don't want it mentioned....or counted accurately.
@augieray it also seem that humanity as a whole decided to ignore the Virus now convincing themselves it’s not dangerous anymore and some even think it was never dangerous.
@augieray
Still wearing my mask and practicing safety protocols.
I really don't care if someone tries to stop me or gives me any grief about it.
That will be a big mistake on their part.

@augieray I absolutely hate that moment when you mention you’re more Covid cautious and aren’t sure how the pressing you’re talking to will react.

You can see something shift in the person’s face.

@cferdinandi Man, I go through that A LOT. My company's big annual conference was two weeks ago, and I opted out. I had a dozen people ask me why I wasn't going, and I always debated between the truth and lying ("I had a conflict.") I told the truth, because I think it's a chance to educate others that there is still risk out there.
