😭 TIL: Don't *ever* try to write a paper about emojis. It will *always* get destroyed in production. 😫

srsl you've got to be kidding me
@tschfflr reminds me of the fun @emilymbender had fighting for getting emoji in her paper titles correctly included in bibliographic metadata of the publisher/archive
@MarcSchulder @emilymbender yes, however there it was arguably decorative whereas we’re actually discussing emojis including the *design* or visual properties of emojis (you can’t just switch or describe them wth). In a previous emoji paper we were dissuaded from using an emoji in the title, *sigh*
Also, *ACL does Latex and should be able to handle Unicode.
@tschfflr I'd love to read papers about emojis 😯 what happened ??
@lilitoot There are over 200 papers on the #linguistics of #emojis : https://www.zotero.org/groups/2613859/linguistics_of_emojis/
The production process of many journals doesn't deal well with them. In this case, we'll have to see that they fix the problems before publication 🤗

@tschfflr Aah is it a character problem ? I hope it will get fixed soon 💪
Thanks for the link 🙏
@tschfflr It's difficult enough for journals to write accents already... We signalled this in the proof and they "fixed" it with a broken character in a way which prevents to select the word in the published version... It's quite a large editor but somehow it's the first time they had to write a non-ascii character apparently?🤦‍♂️ https://fosstodon.org/@Armavica/111145540149408284
