The rudeness of misgendering a trans person, or forcing the wrong name or honorific on them, is just as bad as if someone insisted on calling a married woman by her maiden name -- or a divorced woman by her former-married name. What sort of jerk would do that, you know?

Yeah, it takes a smidgen of effort the first few times you have to remember something new. And you'll mess up, and need to politely apologize and move the conversation along. Big deal.
