#AudioMo 2024 day 12: Yanny or Laurel?
Do you guys remember Yanny Vs. Laurel? I remember that debate nearly passed over our connected household untouched, until my former roommate and I played that video, and we each realized we heard different things. I never understood how this worked. On some of those clips, I heard Laurel, but on most of them, I was hearing Yanny. Listen to the recording and tell me what you hear. :)
Hope everyone has had a great day!
@desertstar84 I hear Yani.
@lulu_bear I've always heard Yanny as well. I was always baffled that people around me heard Laurel as well. It's tricky, but still quite fascinating. :)
@desertstar84 There's actually a fairly simple explaination for this. That recording actually has both words being spoken, loral at a lower frequency and Yammi at a higher frequency. Which one you hear will depend on all sorts of things, from your headphones to the precise shape of your ears, as well as the volume at which the audio is playing. You can get a clearer picture of this by playing around with it in an audio editor.
@desertstar84 @arqeria I remember that. Tempted to see if I can find it again just to see what I hear.
Laurel - Definition, Meaning & Synonyms

A laurel is a wreath worn on the head, usually as a symbol of victory. If you see an image of Julius Caesar, chances are he's wearing a laurel.

@arqeria I read articles about this when my roommate and I experienced this phenomenon. It is very fascinating to me. I love audio, whether it's listening or producing it, and learning about these things has been exciting. Of course, I know the word is actually Laurel, but the frequency changes changes the structure of the word itself, and that's always what got to me. :)
