“The thing with Sam Alito is that he doesn’t give a fuck. He is a seventy-something Fox News watcher and religious fundamentalist who happens to find himself in a position of immense and almost incomparable power over all of American society and he’s going to take that power to the limit to advance his own political preferences. He’s not even going to go through the motions of pretending that’s not the case.”

Josh Marshall understands Alito all too well. Gift link:

Resilience Part 2 (or Thoughts on Sam Alito’s DGAF Justicehood)

I think a lot about resilience. It's actually an underlying concern that forms a lot of my political opinions. Not about policy, though perhaps that too in some way, but politics in the sense of…

TPM – Talking Points Memo
“Yes, it’s bad that we’ve gotten to this point, that we are in the thrall of a thoroughly corrupt institution. But it is corrupt. And people seeing that is a good thing. It is a prerequisite requirement for any possible change or reform. (1/2)

"We need to get our game faces on, realize where we are, identify the paths to eliminating the corruption, be running against this corruption in every election, making the case about the Court’s corruption and realizing it will take some time to get things back to where they need to be. Let’s do it.”

@JamesGleick Sadly, Josh's words will be filtered out from Apple's AI training models due to profanity.
@JamesGleick Senator Whitehouse was particularly eloquent on "justice" Alito last week on Deadline Whitehouse
that the conservatives have been the kids with the headgear sitting at the cool kids table for years unable to do what they were put there to do, and are now really letting their right wing freak flag fly and they dont give a fuck who sees it. They cant believe they are being criticized and not cheered, they are THAT out of touch.

Sen. Whitehouse and Nicolle Wallace Dig Deep into the Supreme Court's Ethics Crisis

YouTube

@JamesGleick

It's Clear to me that lifetime appointments to Supreme Court is the third biggest flaw in the US Constitution.

Biggest being slavery was initially allowed, second biggest flaw being the electoral college.

@SocialJusticeHeals @JamesGleick Senate is worse than the Electoral College, imo

EC only devalues my presidential vote. Senate devalues my political representation

California has ~40 million people by itself and only 2 senators

21 states have ~40 million people total and get 42 senators

That is obscene

@JamesGleick

I'd be completely unmoved if dude suffered a massive, lock-in stroke. Even better were it reversible with curatives derived from fetal tissue.

@JamesGleick

He is activated to implement the insanity that is "Project 2025".

Chess pieces, man. It's nuts.

@JamesGleick Who watches the watchers? Nobody.

@JamesGleick

Alito spelled out his wish list when he overturned Roe. Marriage, contraception, parental decisions on education, refusal of forced sterilization… it’s all there in black and white:

@JamesGleick this is the conservative project. The man thought the same as a twenty something.

@JamesGleick we really need to push back on this idea that Supreme Court justices have such power.

They don’t.

The system was specifically designed to ensure that they would not receive such authority, declining to give executive privileges to the unelected justices.

The perspective that you’re quoting falls apart against that reality, as Alito has not found himself in such a powerful position.

Instead, he writes opinions.

@JamesGleick nobody on the supreme Court has to give a fuck. They are on Mount Olympus, basically.
