Dan's Online Community Management Thread that started off as me bitching about a subreddit and turned into a server-spanning Epic Thread about What Not To Do when running online communities, part 1:

THIS THREAD RIGHT HERE, YOU'RE READING IT BUDDY, also the fact that this very thread is split over three servers now is, uh, shall we say Illustrative Of The Issues Discussed

I've learned a lot of Hideous Nonsense during the two decades I've run online communities, and I started posting that nonsense over on this thread on my old account: https://mastodon.social/@ifixcoinops/105778289798706182 This thread continues right here, as soon as either I think of something else to add, or some new server admin does something foolish that I can point and cackle at.

@ifixcoinops thank you SO MUCH for continuing to write about this, i've been in a deep-dive reading things linked in these threads for hours now and i feel incredibly glad to have stumbled across you on mastodon today

i ran a game once myself that suffered from Mod Fear and Heartbreak Mode, and my mental health declined with it until i eventually had to sell it to a friend and detach myself from it completely, and i never truly understood exactly what happened and what mistakes i made until now

@DionRa oh mate, I'm glad this helped. What game was it?
@ifixcoinops i've since transitioned and the game's connected to my deadname so i'm hesitant to share the name πŸ˜… not least because i'm sure there's still a small corner of the internet where that name is unfortunately famous due to horribly misogynist rumours that banned players were spreading about me
@DionRa oof you've gone through the wringer huh
@ifixcoinops very much so :( thank you for listening <3
