@vfrmedia @anniezaidi IIRC, part of the modern far right beard thing is also an artifact of the so-called "GWOT"

special forces operators were encouraged to grow beards to blend in better when fighting in Afghanistan (explicitly trying to appropriate Muslims' facial hair for tactical reasons)

then, special forces are seen as hyper-masculine, so mimicking their appearance (from the facial hair, to the clothing and accessories, and even the weapons and vehicles) becomes quite popular among the far right

facebook "mom's groups" part of the problem, despite how the "moms for liberty" group I had to go stand on the street over, was barely 50% women IIRC
