Do they make a RAT2 knockoff with axis lock? I love my rat2, but I’m over linerlocks. I’ve chopped my thumb one too many times. And if there are better locks, why still use liner/frame locks?

Tons of reasons, but probably because liner locks are well understood and cheap and easy to manufacture.

I haven’t seen a knockoff of the smaller RAT 2 yet, but that’s not to say they aren’t out there. In the meantime, consider the Kershaw Mini Iridium, which has a 3" blade, Axis lock (or ā€œDuraLock,ā€ Kershaw’s name for it) and ball bearing pivots. It ought to run you about $50.

I think in the Ontario line the D2 versions of the RAT retail for around $50 and the AUS 8 versions are around $40. I was surprised to see they have a RAT 1.5 in Magnacut for under $100 which, depending on heat treat, might be an amazing deal.

What terrible progress the Chinese could make overnight if only they could figure out how to apply all this know-how, all this skill, this mastery of mass production to an original design for once.

This is essentially what We/Civivi/Sencut are doing, at least from my perspective. They’re working with real designers (in addition to in-house designs) for their knives. Now, I am not a fan of their ā€œflood the marketā€ approach to things, but they certainly apply their manufacturing skills to make some pretty darn good knives. (This sounds very astroturf-y when I re-read it. Not intended to be that.)

Room service just sent this up. To cut the limes.

ā€œThere is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of a knife buying binge.ā€

@[email protected] this is really weird but this entire post just showed up on piefed.world yesterday as a new post. I didn’t recognize that it was 2 years old until I re-logged into lemmy.world today. I was curious because I didn’t see any other comments on the piefed side of things. There’s some weirdness going on between the two instances for sure.

@dual_sport_dork - Lemmy.World

Progenitor of the Weird Knife Wednesday feature column. Is ā€œcolumnā€ the right word? Anyway, apparently I also coined the Very Specific Object nomenclature now sporadically used in the 3D printing community. Yeah, that was me. This must be how Cory Doctorow feels all the time these days.

How bizarre. I have noticed similar things in the past, in particular when lemmy.world was having federation difficulties (there was a pinned post about it a few days ago). Randomly posts of mine as well as others that were months old would show up interspersed with normal results when sorting posts by ā€œnew.ā€ I wonder if this is a related bug.

I think I fixed a typo in the Kalashnikov post the other day, though. I’ve been going over some of the oldies and cleaning things up now that they’re all linked on my website as well.
