#MTGMH3 was the perfect excuse to print a colourless card with the keyword Sweep, in this case returning Wastes.

It could’ve even been bad! Like all cards with Sweep!

@Graham_LRR The problem is that wastes don’t have a subtype, so the game can’t check how many wastes were returned to hand.

@SadlyGoose @Graham_LRR "Return any number of basic lands you control with no basic land types to their owner's hand."

"[effect] for each land returned this way."

Given that Sweep is an ability word without inherent rules, there should be some flexibility to how you can word it.

@jedimb Sure, except sweep was never restricted to basic lands, which was relevant since OG kamigawa was in standard with OG ravnica
@SadlyGoose Again: no inherent rules, so the type restrictions can be whatever seems balanced for the individual cards.
@jedimb If you make a mechanic that cares about basic lands entering the battlefield, don’t call it landfall is what I’m saying

@SadlyGoose Sweep has always cared about limiting what kind of lands it returns, though, while not being well-established due to only being on four cards.

Not really comparable to Landfall, which has never had any limitations and is on 133 cards.

@SadlyGoose @jedimb Something like...

Eat Across Eternities
C
Instant — Arcane
Sweep - Return any number of lands you control without any land types to their owner's hand. Exile target creature if its mana value is equal to or less than the number of lands returned this way.
