Don't tell me we “can’t afford” to fight the climate crisis.

A new study found the economic costs of the crisis are 6x larger than previously thought. It's estimated we'll lose 12% of world GDP per degree of warming.

Saving the climate is both morally & financially right.

@rbreich we need a global general strike to get the asshats in charge to move on this
@rbreich you think it's a crisis now? just wait til next year!
@mousey
I am waiting for planes to start falling , I am amazed it hasn't happened yet.
It's so windy here right now I am not taking my dogs out because I don't trust the tree limbs not to break.
It's knocking all the baby birds out of their nests.
@palin yikes! please ignore internet randos like me, and please stay safe!!

@rbreich
I wonder what % of the human population we’ll be losing per degree of warming. Surely some of the GDP decrease will be due to worker mortality. Everyone should get familiar with heat index and wet bulb temperature. We need stronger laws to protect people working outside.

@rbreich
But think about the poor oil billionaires and kleptocrats? Who’s looking out for them?
@rbreich People are all for fighting the climate crisis... as long as they don't have to change their behavior.
Look how much Covid death it took to convince people to wear masks and how quickly they reverted. 🙄

@rbreich The folks who are most insistent that climate change can't be addressed without "destroying the economy" are, at least in my experience, the first to declare that unbounded military spending is "just what is necessary," a non-negotiable cost of existence.
