fedora atomic was a TERRIBLE choice for a linux install that lives in a flash drive. it does so much IO to do absolutely nothing
simply opening plasma discover makes the system unusable for over a minute
it's split home so maybe I reinstall to fucking arch
also btrfs is Not Helping. please let me use f2fs and give me access to iotop etc

ughh the split home partition is also btrfs

it'd be so much work to rebuild

@unascribed i don't understand this either. it's made me just stop with the GUI store apps and go straight back to dnf and flatpak.
you ever find a fix?
#kdeplasma #plasmadiscover
@comicsansg afaict this is because this system is running with a flash drive as its root and something about btrfs causes read amplification and makes the entire system slow to a crawl until the IO is done
@unascribed for me at least, discover still takes a smoke break on steam decks, laptops with SSDs (either NVMe or SATA), and even my asahi macbook m1 2020 which blows everything else of mine out of the water with r/w performance.
mfw it's just python3 sitting there x6 (is this just a me problem, or does python3-based stuff occasionally take a hot minute to run?)
