the mad max movies tell the story of a beautiful future where you can actually repair the technology you rely on.
i don't believe the reaction to some shit I tapped out one hand style while standing at the urinal peeing in the middle of the movie. but in hindsight I may as well have just gone onto to the fediverse like "hey y'all, who likes computers?!"
@jackdaw_ruiz i love that on monads it shows less than 30 boosts lol

@gonzo

monads federates with up to 30 other people? y'all have gone soft.

@jackdaw_ruiz it’s what I love about Star Wars too. George Lucas was a teen hot rod kid and he wanted to inject that ethos into his new world.
@jackdaw_ruiz Dystopia? More like fix-topia amiright?
@jackdaw_ruiz I was reading about the production design for fury road and furiosa and how they deliberately used 1970s and earlier vehicles because there's no way a modern vehicle with crumple zones and computers would stay functional very long in that environment

@derekdahlsad @jackdaw_ruiz Well, the world "ended" before modern cars in that universe as well.

Here's an awesome little documentary on these crazy (fully functional vehicles): https://youtu.be/-FzcO3utFY0?si=2nWP3-3uQRslaqZA

@derekdahlsad @jackdaw_ruiz I think it was more carrying on the aesthetic of the films. The cars of Mad Max were ex-taxis of the days, the XA blowing smoke in the opening scenes wasn’t special effects, it was a clapped out straight 6 with too many miles on it. After production the Interceptor went to the wreckers as they couldn’t sell it and a collector bought and restored it around ‘85
