#MorganSpurlock has died and it seems like a good time to remind everyone that in 2008 he released a documentary called 'Where In The World is Osama Bin Laden?'

The reception to the film was negative. People didn't like that "the mcdonalds guy" was getting involved in political affairs, or that he was treating Osama like a subject for comedy. The reaction was overwhelmingly "stay in your lane".

Osama was found 3y later. The documentary pinpointed where he was hiding within less than 200km.

@rodhilton I can still remember sitting in a theater with a bunch of friends, holding popcorn and the giant sodas they'd give you and watching his body just fall apart on him in Supersize Me. All of us were looking at the sodas and each other and just putting them down halfway through the show. Walking out, every aisle in the theater had a rows of abandoned drinks in it.

53 is so young, god damn.

@mhoye @rodhilton Apparently Morgan Spurlock was a giant alcoholic https://monads.online/@gonzo/112471594283017211

@geesehoward the scene when the dr is like “dude your liver is fucked up. like in the kind of way specific to alcoholics” and he was deadass just like “damn its crazy mcdonalds can do that to your body” lol

@mhoye @rodhilton it turned out he was actually drinking heavily during that documentary, so it wasn't the McDonald's doing him in all by itself.
@phord @rodhilton Yeah, I've heard. Even so, the whole super-size idea was abandoned soon afterwards.

@mhoye @phord they eliminated super sizing directly in response to the movie, too. As well as introduced "healthier" items like salads and a grilled chicken sandwich.

The grilled chicken sandwich was my favorite McDonald's menu item for years, they discontinued it a few years ago during covid as part of cost-cuttinf because it didn't sell well, now there's nothing "light" on the entire menu which sucks if I'm getting McDs for the kids andnim hungry too but don't want heavy fried stuff.
