House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called on Supreme Court Justice Samuel #Alito to recuse himself from Jan. 6 cases after news that, according to The New York Times, a second flag of a type carried by Jan. 6 rioters was displayed outside Alito’s home.

A second flag of a type carried by rioters during the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was displayed outside a house owned by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. That's according to a report published Wednesday by The New York Times. An “Appeal to Heaven” flag was flown outside Alito’s beach vacation home last summer. An inverted American flag, another symbol carried by rioters, was seen at Alito’s home outside Washington less than two weeks after the violent attack on the Capitol. Alito and the court declined to respond to the newspaper's request for comment. He previously said the inverted American flag was placed by his wife.

@GottaLaff This is absolutely the right time for Dick Durbin to step up and do his job as the head of the Senate JC. The least he should do is to do an inquiry into the fucked up and traitorous Alito.

He and schumer already did that. Alito, Roberts, and Clarence Sale declined to participate in the inquiry. You want them to issue a subpoena? Guess who eventually decides if the subpoena is constitutional, and it'll be a 9-0 vote to quash because no justice wants to be subject to congressional fishing expeditions. But you'll then blame democrats for losing on that one too.

@artemesia @GottaLaff I don’t mean to be argumentative but Durbin only asked Alito to recuse but he never talked about an inquiry. See attached article.

By the way, in this day and age with the way GOP and MAGA are behaving recklessly, I for one will go with “they go low, we go lower”. But that is just little me.

I was referring to the inquiry of about a year ago, when the clarence sale shenanigans became public knowledge (thank you very much pro publica, enjoy your pulitzer). But you're right, alito was not requested to appear in that one. But the standard of behavior is now known, two justices refused to participate in the past inquiry, an inquiry into alito now will achieve the same result: nothing.

SJC should get on with confirming Biden's judges, and not do an ineffectual weak-looking inquiry five and half months from an election where control of the senate will be very close.
