Ugh, DuckDuckGo has been down for the past two hours. Bing too, apparently.

I've been forced to use yahoo like it's 1995 or something

#InternetBroken #DuckDuckGo

Apparently some of DuckDuckGo's search results come from Bing, so it seems like a dependency there has borked things.

Good job Microsoft, this is what happens when you fire everyone not working on "AI"

To be fair, I can't say for sure what the root cause of this outage is, but I guarantee the past year of tech layoffs have been reducing reliability of the tech we take for granted. I know plenty of QA and reliability teams had already been stretched thin in 2019 before the pandemic started. It's all been downhill since then, and shifting billions of dollars of resources into AI and executive bonuses ain't gonna to fix jack

Where do DuckDuckGo search results come from?

DuckDuckGo is an independent internet privacy company that offers a private alternative to Google search & Chrome in one free app.

@dotjayne ohh so it's not just me. i was gonna try to find a site to check if it was down but i tried to use duckduckgo and

@chrisisgr8 lol, had exactly the same problem. that's how I found out yahoo was still up, as I am not now nor have I ever been a member of Bing's userbase

it's strange having to remember websites outside of a handful like wikipedia to search directly on, instead of just doing it indirectly through a search engine. very web 1.0

@dotjayne DuckDuckGo uses Bing as an upstream source. Microsoft Build is on just now so I wonder if they are trying to roll out some update or other.

@dotjayne

I just tried to use DDG for something and wondered "WTF?".

Thanks for tell me WTF is.

@dotjayne these two things are probably related?
