"They condemn rampant sidewalk blocking, which can threaten the safety of walkers who are forced into the street. " is only part of it. Parking on the sidewalk - even if there is space for the pedestrian to get by - creates a problem for wheelchairs and mobility scooters - just another #ADA issue that ignored in most of the public discourse on public streets & sidewalks. It was only when my aging relatives needed to get around that I realized how little I understood the problems.

San Francisco parking crusaders call 311. Their neighbors get tickets

San Francisco has a subculture of parking vigilantes. Frustrated with widespread illegal parking, most of all blocking sidewalks, these residents have taken it upon themselves to report vehicles to the city, often resulting in a parking ticket.

@PaulWermer I love it. Cars are an urban curse, and it’s way beyond time that drivers begin paying the actual cost of the harm their transportation choices cause, and also about time they all learn they’re not the only people trying to get around a city.
@PaulWermer the link to the note that is posted in neighborhoods asking people not to report them is SO YUCKY! Like “we’ve been breaking the rules for years, go somewhere else if you don’t like rule breakers.” PLEASE!!! you live in a city, you deal with the fact that your car culture is a problem for the safety and security of others.
@PaulWermer Such a contrast between how police respond to motorists semi-permanently blocking sidewalks with their parked vehicles and protesters temporarily blocking car lanes to petition the government for redress of their grievances.
