What is missed is that her behavior is part of critique being made by the story. Bracket her interactions with the casket for a moment. Watch how she responds to events around her that don't directly involve her.
The full repertoire of awareness and empathy is there. Yet #mourning, in particular, is held in abeyance.

The urge to destroy food is the urge to go maskless during ongoing #pandemic. The urge to reject grief. The urge to refuse trauma. The urge to render one's pain as someone else's problem.
