This iteration of "AI" hype is not gonna last as long as crypto. That's my prediction. We'll see if I'm right.

Both hype cycles use obfuscation and technical abstruseness to flimflam suckers into thinking that the tech is more revolutionary and effective than it is.

But in crypto's case, the supposed utility of the thing was also obscure, with constantly moving goalposts. It was that facet, I think, that gave crypto hype its longevity.

"AI" just doesn't have that trait. Everybody has been trained for decades on what "AI" is supposed to do, and what it's utility is supposed to be.

That it falls hilariously short of those goals will not long be lost on all but the dumbest fucks.
