I'll stay active here too, enjoy chatting with lots of great people here, including you, obvs, but when I've mentally switched modes to "gain audience" I've always hated Mastodon/Fedi. I think something you said helped open my eyes that this network just isnt meant for it

I don't know how it is there, but Mastodon's straw-like view just isn't suitable for people seeing posts.
I like Diaspora more, but it has fewer active users, so building up a following is more hit and miss.
I think your best shot at building a following is YouTube, but competition is STIFF. Big possible payoff but ... very very tough odds and work, as well as a high chance of just disappearing from The Algorithm at some point.

hoping to avoid going YT route. want to avoid putting out vids of me talking on cam for all world to see & snatch 24x7. variety of threats there includng ingest to AI that then gens fake vids for blackmail purposes. (loltears). I'm already taking risk of sharing audio of me speaking but figure gain *might* be more than I lose
if there were no evil assholes out there I could enjoy trying a vid talk series. I do have side of me that loves drama & oration haha
