BREAKING: ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan announces he is seeking arrest warrants for Hamas leadership Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, & Ismail Haniyeh, and Israeli leadership PM Benjamin Netanyahu & Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Both parties are charged with multiple specific war crimes. Both parties must stand trial. No one is above the law as this is how we protect international rules based order. Posting a detailed analysis soon.

@QasimRashid Of the two, Israel is the bigger criminal. What Hamas did was inexcusable but Israel's effort to murder all Palestinians is a genuine war crime.
@Irvings_Zoo @QasimRashid it's not a competition. Everyone guilty of a war crime, no matter its scale, should stand trial and face an appropriate punishment.
@AGTMADCAT Agreed. The problem is, the US wants to shield Netanyahu so there's a good chance he won't be arrested. In that sense, it *is* a competition and he wins the immunity prize. That is just wrong.
@QasimRashid Formally, the prosecutors are *requesting* arrest warrants to be issued; if that actually happens, it's the judges that do it, not the prosecutors -- and they ordinarily take months to consider a request. https://www.theguardian.com/law/article/2024/may/20/icc-prosecutor-seeks-arrest-warrants-israeli-pm-netanyahu-hamas-officials-war-crimes

@QasimRashid

How long until the GQP members of the US legislature threaten to cut off funding or to seek arrest warrants for the ICC prosecutor?
@ferricoxide Iโ€™m sure theyโ€™re already working on it. Khan addresses that too.
@QasimRashid Unfortunately, the ICC has no real teeth as a court so it's about as useful and punishing as a non-security-counsel UN declaration.
