Similar issue when cycling: My goal is to always stop for pedestrians who try to cross the street, but I will never wave at them to cross because most car drivers behind me will not slow down, ready to kill the pedestrian instead.

@mszll I have tried the same with cyclists: I stop on the bikelane for a pedestrian crossing, but other cyclists behind me just continues 🤷🏻‍♂️

@sorenhave yes, happens all the time. Traffic is unfortunately all about the right of the stronger. At least cyclists have a much smaller probability to kill people.

@mszll @sorenhave when I’m on my big cargo bike, it helps to block for bikes from behind. I only do this for when I’m legally supposed to stop though.

@mszll I try to teach my kids not accept the wave, and now the older one often just waves back at the cars to keep going 🥰

@mszll the wave is of course even worse when people wave kids out. They think adult knows everything so it makes them ignore checking for dangers themselves.
I’ve tried to go the cars sometimes to ask what their thinking: “I’m just trying to be nice” 🫠
