Hii!
I'm still here! I haven't forgotten about this place (although art making has been rather slow lately).

And to show you that I can do more than just retoot posts from my buddy @Blahmage I just had the (semi) spontaneous idea to post all of my merfolk art before Mermay is over.

You see, mermaids used to be my go-to subject whenever I couldn't think of anything else to draw. Probably because you don't have to think about how those pesky legs connect to the torso :D Also blue. So much blue!

Time to start with the ancient artifacts. Those were made, I believe, on postcard sized watercolour paper (celullose, of course, nothing fancy for me yet). And by that I mean an actual postcard watercolour block from Fabriano that someone gifted me back then.

And yes, those dates do say 2002 and 2006 😁 Told you, we were going far, far back.
One of them has a broken neck, that poor thing 😂

More coming soon!

I totally forgot about this masterpiece by Baby Sikard! 😂
I must've been seven or eight when I drew this and I remember being mighty proud of it.

Of course I was obsessed with the Disney movie, like most little girls back then. At some point my VHS tape disappeared never to be seen again. All that is left is the case. But don't worry, I'm over it 😆

(Sorry about the hand in the photo, I tried my best to avoid any glare.)

Continuing with the mermaid theme, back in 2009 I started my first (and only) venture into ATC/ACEO cards thanks to @Blahmage . What started as only two cards turned into a whole series of basically illustrations for the fairytale "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen.

The first three are about the mermaid fantasizing about the world of humans, seeing the prince's ship and saving the prince from the shipwreck.

And on to the next set of three cards (there are nine in total).

Here we continue with the story. The little mermaid trades her voice for a set of legs, and later dances for the prince. But the trade comes with another price: Walking with her new feet on solid ground feels like stepping into knives.

Last three of the ACEO/ATC set!
Thoughts on this: It was nice to pick a theme and actually finish/execute it. However, I'm not sure if such a small scale is for me. I prefer working on larger canvases (larger than 2"x3" that is).

To conclude the story: During the night of the wedding between the prince and princess, the mermaid's sisters offer her a way out. If she kills the newlyweds, the mermaid can return to the sea. But she doesn't.

Look, I found some more mermaids! They're from my sketchbooks and range from old to older.

Time to finish this thread.
I think I already posted this piece sometime last year, but this thread wouldn't be complete without it.

I like that this painting has no "correct" orientation. And it was only semi-intentional! You can rotate it 90°, 180°, 270° and choose what you prefer.

Details! (Plus some fake pearls to make it look ~fancy~)

I used silver metal foil on the scales to make them extra shiny.
