LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020-2025

EU actions combating discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) people in EU countries.

European Commission
@EUCommission Love and politics should never clash. As soon as a politician weaponises love, you should grab them by the scruff of the neck and drag them out of public service forever.

@EUCommission Cool.

Now let's start by actually helping LGBTQIA+ folks and minorities in countries where their very existence is considered wrong or is outright being challenged. We can start with Poland and Hungary as priorities. Then probably start actually implementing laws that punish people for discriminating against LGBTQIA+ and minorities in the rest of the European Union, because even in countries where we are "tolerated", there still are groups who roam freely cussing at us, threatening us or outright actively trying to physically harm us. All of this is happening while more and more Member-States are veering towards the far-right and nothing is being done to prevent that.

@EUCommission Because at the end of the day, it's all fun and games to make a statement of how diverse and helpful one can be, but actions speak louder than words, and the fact we are getting close to Pride Month only makes these messages come across as "just another year when everyone is OK with us for one month only."

It's been like that for decades and we have been slowly but surely losing rights that many of our peers fought, cried, bled, or lost their lives for in the past.

I grew to become very skeptical and pessimistic towards these things, because ultimately when a certain timeframe is done, we (LGBTQIA+) and minorities are just dumped again, discard onto the side of the road like something unhygienic, until we're picked up again whenever our existence can be of benefit to further someone else's personal career or agenda.

The transphobic moral panic does seem to be largely an anglophone problem.

Mainwhile, over on the European mainland, @EUCommission are writing things like this:

The Commission will [encourage] legal gender recognition legislation and procedures based on the principle of self-determination and without age restrictions.
