Gov. Greg Abbott pardons Daniel Perry, veteran who killed police brutality protester in 2020

A Travis County jury sentenced Perry to 25 years in prison last year, prompting Abbott to ask the state parole board to review his case.

@w7voa Apparently, it's legal to open carry in Texas only if you're a certain sort of person. If you're attending a Black Lives Matter protest and you approach a self-proclaimed racist trying to drive his car through the crowd to suggest that, maybe, he ought not to drive his car through the crowd, it's perfectly acceptable to just shoot you.

This pardon is absolutely infuriating for how baldly political, and wrong, it is.

@w7voa I didn't remember this case so I've spent a bunch of time, now, reading through the available material to make sense of this one. Perry claimed the shooting was in self-defense but nobody else saw Foster raise the rifle...and, if Foster did point the gun at him, how was Perry able to draw and shoot without getting shot himself?

There's just not even a little bit of ambiguity here. A man openly professed his desire to shoot Black Lives Matter protestors. He shot a Black Lives Matter protestor with no provocation. He was rightfully convicted. And, now, Greg Abbott has pardoned him to make it clear that there's nothing wrong with provoking and shooting BLM (and, presumably, other) protestors.

@w7voa Seems like we're well on the way to GOP death squads.
@w7voa There's a madman running the state of Texas without term limits.

@w7voa

Someone challenged Abbot by saying, "show us you're a racist asshole without saying you're a racist asshole."

And Abbot did just that. He thinks he won an additional female virgin when he heads to the 2024 Republican National Convention.

@w7voa I promise to pardon whoever murders Abbott.
