para.chi.paris'24

We invite HCI researchers working in France and neighboring countries to join us for a two-day mini-conference around CHI'24 as part of the para.chi initiative. Our goal is to create a space to discuss the latest works accepted in CHI, to foster new ideas and future collaborations, and to explore

I missed two presentations in the morning 😢 so no reports.

After a long lunch break (even by french standards), we are back in thematic discussion sessions.

We have 3 themes this afternoon :
- Visualizations
- XR
- Sustainability

In the sustainability session we looked at videos and discussed the following papers:
- Designing a Card-Based Design Tool to Bridge Academic Research & Design Practice For Societal Resilience

- The Future of HCI-Policy Collaboration

- Post-growth Human–Computer Interaction

We didn't manage to discuss the following papers :
- From Exploration to End of Life: Unpacking Sustainability in Physicalization Practices
- SolarClub: Supporting Renewable Energy Communities through an Interactive Coordination System
- From Surplus and Scarcity towards Abundance: Understanding the Use of ICT in Food Resource Sharing Practices
Next we watched @Katecrawford keynote, followed by lively discussions. Again, the hub format enables much richer discussions than normal conference formats. Student can intervene much more freely.
We ended the day at Ground Control Paris, with drinks and food. It was a great social event, outdoors, cozy, and covid safe.
