Molly White is one of the most thoughtful writers and thinkers on the web today. In addition to being a high functioning crypto critic, @molly0xfff is a believer and practitioner in crafting the next era of the web.

Molly believes that human connections are an inextricable part of the web and sees a bright future ahead as those connections move from walled gardens to the open web.

@molly0xfff @mike Just downloaded it. Looking forward to walking the dog tomorrow!
Great to hear @molly0xfff's thoughts on not just the fediverse but lots of #dweb and #indieweb technology.
The points about UX are so right, been thinking about this a lot.
Portability, attribution and ownership are also key
Thank you @mike and the @Flipboard team for producing these #dotsocial podcasts

a decentralized Patreon is essential. an open protocol/API that would let us transfer money bank to bank almost as easily as sending an email.

the paywall issue is a real problem but could be overcome if we could connect our media/reading apps to this. set any amount that gets automatically distributed on a percentage basis by time spent.

if enough people do this with enough money, we eventually convince more and more creators to release their work directly and open access.

@wjmaggos @mike @molly0xfff this P2P decentralised money already exists. They are called micropayment SATs sent over the lightning wallet. Many new Podcasting 2.0 apps already use it to reward creators. There is a new economic model that goes hand in hand called Value 4 Value. - https://value4value.info/
V4V - A New Way to Think about Value

Value4Value is a monetization model, a content format, and a way of life. It is about freedom and openness, fairness and inclusiveness, sound money and censorship resistance.

@samsethi @mike @molly0xfff

absolutely the right idea but I think it has to be a pot we set monthly that gets automatically distributed and there's too many problems with crypto for most people.

@wjmaggos @mike @molly0xfff TrueFans is heading down this road. So you set a monthly fiat amount (even auto-top up) and we will deal with the micropayment distribution. No crypto wallet needed by the user. We would create a virtual wallet for you and make the payments on your behalf. We just enabled user son Truefans to buy audiobooks or albums in a FIAT currency and then we convert that to SATs and pay the creator and any splits in their wallet. The user buying the book doesn't care.
@mike @molly0xfff Just listened to the episode. One of the best! Thanks both of you.
@underlap @molly0xfff I agree. One of the best. Molly is so good. Thanks for listening.

@mike @molly0xfff Is there some way to stream the audio only on PeerTube? Clicking Download -> Advanced -> "Audio stream" gives an "Access Denied" error.

I had to search for an another podcast source to get audio only.

1/2 - @mike @molly0xfff Another great interview Mike and some very thoughtful points made by Molly especially this clip here about ownership, copyright and licensing of your content.

The podcasting 2.0 community has already addressed the problems Molly raised about ownership, The new RSS License Tag used both Creative Commons licenses but also a new Podcast License for enabling audio and music licensing.

@mike @molly0xfff On last night's Podcasting 2.0 show with @adam and @dave, there was a similar conversation about podcasts licensing music and audio clips.

IMHO every podcast should, as a minimum, set their license to 'All Rights Reserved" and as Molly said they can then pick a CC license to set an explicit permission of usage or use the new Podcast License.

We have also extended this to allow music artists or podcasters to be paid for their content. #v4v
