Sharing this graphic to help put today's attacks by the Tories on cyclists into some kind of perspective.

Their hate has real world implications, from cyclists being less safe as a result of harassment/attacks and by shifting the discussion away from the infrastructure improvements that would make everyone's lives better and safer.

Here are some thoughts from Chris Boardman (the commissioner of Active Travel England) too.

"30,000 people are killed or seriously injured on our roads every year, less than three involving a cyclist": Chris Boardman on dangerous cycling https://road.cc/content/news/cycling-live-blog-16-may-2024-308403

That's in the EU. This page - a parliamentary report - has some very useful info for UK numbers in 2019: https://www.pacts.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/PACTS-What-kills-most-on-the-roads-Report-15.0.pdf
@Naich yes, that's right. Thanks for the link to the UK report, that's really useful and has some similar stats. I shared the EU one because it specifically has the numbers of pedestrians killed by cyclists and cyclists killed by pedestrians, which seemed relevant given the current attempts at stoking the culture war about how deadly and terrible us cyclists are.

@linuxlucy @Naich

Thanks for sharing these reports.

I've shared these to our local cycle action group who keep working to make cycling safer, so thanks!

Enjoy the sunny cycling this weekend!

@linuxlucy

Wow! 22 car occupants were killed in collision with a pedestrian.

Ban walking!
