Twice recently* I've seen old MN flags pop up in my neighborhood, and given the timing of the new MN flag design/endorsement, it feels vaguely dog-whistle-y.
Am I being weird and/or overly sensitive? 🤔
* One I noticed seemingly suddenly a few months ago, the other I swear wasn't even there last week. 🤨
@jima I suppose in this case, the fact that all fabric flags will eventually wear out will be a natural indicator over time whether the display of the old flag is for a specific reason or not.
If it's flown daily, a flag might last 3-5 months, although the MN summer sun is quite bright. If it only comes out for "special events", then the correlation becomes clear.
Given the obvious improvement of the new flag and apparent popularity, I expect the old flag to soon fade from the marketplace.
@jima Suffice it to say that I very much like the new flag, although I don't live in MN. I do wish the tricolor was retained by the flag committee, but the rough outline of the state in landscape, and the visible "M" for Minnesota when hoisted vertically, are very appealing features in their own right.
IMO, easily in the top 1/3 of US State flags.
