as a security practitioner, i can no longer legitimize telegram given their latest behavior of attacking actual legitimate secure messaging tools

i was already planning to delete my account at the end of the month over the nazi thing, but i am not going to tolerate a bunch of useless rich-ass techbros (durov and musk in this case) bullying @Mer__edith who is one of the most empathetic people in this industry and who runs an absolutely solid team who cares extensively about the safety and security of the users of their product

i don't care if "all the furries are still there" anymore. i won't be. i'm done with this.

to delete your telegram account:

1. go to https://my.telegram.org/

2. login with your registered phone number

3. click "delete account"

4. fill out the form and smash the button.

to be clear i am NOT suggesting that people use signal for the same purposes they were using telegram.

in reality, i treated telegram as basically the next AIM (AOL instant messenger for all the zoomers out there who probably never heard of it), or “like discord, but the FSB is probably reading all of the posts.”

i use signal for other purposes, mostly business and activism-related. scenarios where i have to deal with android users but still want end to end encryption, basically.

@ariadne Don't worry, it's the CCP not the FSB reading all the messages on Discord. 😂 Tencent is the single largest shareholder after all (38%).
@developing_agent i don’t trust discord with sensitive information either 🙃

@ariadne
Signal is not available on my current Linux distro (PostmarketOS) so I am kind of stuck with Telegram for normal people and Matrix for Linux nerds.

I feel like the amount of choice I have in what chat programs I use has steadily reduced since around 2005

@Duncan this is why i don’t use pmOS on a phone as my daily driver 🙃
