Israeli Ambassador to Serbia has stated that Israel does not recognize Srebrenica as a genocide

"Srebrenica should not be called genocide. Israel has never accepted that the crime in Srebrenica be called genocide. When you call Srebrenica genocide, in my opinion, it diminishes the importance of that term."

@foufoutos Of course they don’t. They’re doing even worse in Gaza. It makes perfect sense that you deny similar genocides when you’re in the middle of committing one.
@foufoutos yes because ethnic cleansing is so much better choice of words than genocide, so softer
@foufoutos The UN Genocide Convention definition begs to differ. Wouldn't it be great to re-write all those pesky definitions? No genocide, no apartheid, no torture, everything antisemitism...
@martinvermeer @foufoutos Israel has been on a campaign for decades to rewrite intentional law to accommodate their treatment of the Palestinians. This is just a small part of it.
@jik @foufoutos Not just re-writing law. Rewriting the language. I am reminded of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis that (over-simplifying!) language constructs the thinking of its speakers. No surprise of course to students of 'framing'. So, Palestinian terrorists are 'Arab terrorists'. The West Bank is 'Judea and Samaria'. 'Returning' after two thousand years. It's an endless game. Language as a theatre of war.
