Yesterday I enjoyed a wander around #BBOWT 's lovely Warburg nature reserve in the #Chiltern hills.

I got to the nature reserve by #bus. I discovered by accident that the service existed, although I'm obliged to be knowledgeable about public transport because I depend on it. There was zero information about the service at the bus stops. The bus was nearly empty.

If local councils and bus operators publicised services more effectively, there would be more passengers and lower subsidies.

Rural bus services are obviously aimed primarily at people who live in villages and want to visit the nearest town. But they also serve other important purposes:

* enabling town people to visit and enjoy the countryside

* reducing traffic congestion by replacing solo car journeys by shared buses

Limiting publicity to the villages directly served by a rural bus misses these other potential markets.
