@helveticablanc Gold leaf looks so fun to work with. A friend of mine used it a lot on her personal works too, been a fan since then :>!
The texture of traditional works is so damn satisfying. Beautiful work, as always.
@rek Aw thanks! It's SO finicky, and I have no idea how folks get a clean application, but it's real fun to dust off and see what stuck. A wonderful exercise in patience!

@helveticablanc @rek

I love seeing the same voice I know from your digital works speak so clearly in this medium.

@RussSharek Aw thanks Russ! It means a lot that y'all can see me carrying it over!

@helveticablanc

It's definitely the same creative voice.

@helveticablanc @rek

I am curious about the collage parts of this. Were they glued to the wood?

@RussSharek @rek Yep! It's parts of pages from a damaged hymnal glued down. I've found that medium and mod podge both work pretty well as "glues" you can work on top of!

@helveticablanc @rek

I've been thinking a lot about trying to experiment more with texture and collage. This has my wheels turning.

@RussSharek @rek You absolutely should! Hit me up anytime if you wanna compare notes!

@helveticablanc @rek

Thank you. As soon as I have notes to share, I will. :)

@helveticablanc @rek

I'm still at the "processing the fact that good creative work can be done with glue" stage. :)

Woah.

I spent a number of years working in hotter climates. As a result, even our throwaway prop builds were forbidden from using hot glue.

I was surprised to discover that, in cooler places, it can hold shape.

@RussSharek this is such a nice way of saying this :>...

The texture in @helveticablanc 's works, whether digital of trad, is just nuts <3.

@helveticablanc @rek the less-clean look with gold leaf has its own charm, i think. adds to the "medieval illuminated manuscript" vibe, like it's aged a little bit
@rednine That's exactly how I see it too!
