important life lessons: a multimillion dollar company can, in years, *almost* approach the output of a ragtag group of lesbians working for two weeks
(okay to be fair it actually took about two months to do what… *checks notes* a $4M VC funded startup hasn’t been able to do in several years; and we also had a politically savvy frenchman)
@ktemkin Is the Frenchman an asset or a liability here? (Having worked for a company founded by and employing a number of Frenchmen I can see this going either way, depending).
@swetland @ktemkin definitely an asset and well appreciate member of the team 🤍
@ktemkin sounds like a good reason to errr...nix the VC techbros
@ktemkin is this with or without ADHD meds? :v

@lethalbit @ktemkin have you seen motivated adhd lesbians in hyperfocus without meds?

they can move mountains in a week (as long as the motivation lasts x) )

@ktemkin Oh, that's even better than the time I worked in a small group acquired by Aruba Networks, and we had a recent hire from Cisco tell us basically, "wow, this would have taken Cisco a team 5x this size"
@recursive @ktemkin as a repeat Cisco employee and also someone who went to a ragtag startup this is hilariously accurate.
@recursive @stoneymonster I worked on a Citrix project that wound up being in the hands of an much smaller company and team after Citrix divested themselves of it, and once we dug ourselves out of some of the bizarre decisions they had made, it was a massive boost in development speed
@ktemkin @recursive when I returned to Cisco a second time it took them 3 weeks to give me a computer. I sat in my cube with printouts of specs and tried not to lose my mind. I talked to my manager once every 6 weeks.
@ktemkin ppppffffffftttttttzzz!
I like you…even though I just sprayed CBD soda all over my phone
@ktemkin was there a particular Incident that prompted this, or is this just a general observation apropos of nothing?
@ktemkin Ragtag Lesbians would be a great band name or company name
@ktemkin reminds me of people saying nixbsd was impossible then mentioning that it took us like 2 months to get it from "nix can't build on freebsd" to "we have basically nixos with a sandboxed nix daemon and a gui running on real hardware"
@ktemkin upstreaming nixpkgs/cppnix (well i guess lix now) changes will probably take many times that
