Saw the news earlier that #BernardHill had died. The “Lord of the Rings and #Titanic actor”, apparently. I mean, I remember him in Titanic but I only watched one of the #LotR things, and I fell asleep during that, so didn’t know he’d been in it/them.
He’ll always be Yosser Hughes to me.
“Gizza job. Go ‘ed, gizza job”
That character really awakened in 12yo me an awareness of the shit state of the country and the effect it was having on ordinary working class people and families like my own.
42 years on, I still remember Yosser very well.
And I mourn the fact that although the #Thatcher witch might be dead, the #Tories still haven’t changed.
I don’t know whether it’s Bleasdale’s writing or Hill’s acting that made Boys From The Blackstuff so memorable for me, but it really really was. I saw the world from a whole new perspective from the moment I watched it. I actually think it’s what kickstarted me growing up.

I’m sad for Bernard Hill’s family and friends, I’m sad that such a great actor will no longer perform, but I’m absolutely fucking gutted that - to me at least - #Yosser is dead.
