My faculty association's response to the university's recent letter to students:

"The Administration appears to believe that with the stroke of a pen it can transform freedom of expression from a fundamental right, the protection of which is the sine qua non of the University, into a privilege that the Administration may confer or deny at its pleasure. This cannot stand."

@brian_gettler hr 6090 says calling israel an ethnostate is hate speech and can result in a school losing funding and student expulsion
@cykonot @brian_gettler No, it does not. The only thing it (the examples in the internationally adopted Holocaust remembrance definition of antisemitism, to be specific) says that could even come close to that is the part where it says denying that Jews deserve the right of self determination that any other group has is antisemitic. If you are decrying all "ethnostates" (e.g. Germany, China, Korea, India, Iran, France, Egypt, Iceland, a free Palestine) then you are fine. Is that your point?
@richard_merren @brian_gettler okay bro, recognizing ethnostates are inherently racist is problematic 🤡
@cykonot @brian_gettler So you think by its very existence, Israel is racist. Do you feel the same about a future Palestinian state? About Germany? About Japan? About Ethiopia?
@cykonot @brian_gettler And do you think Jews DON'T deserve self determination? That they should only be a minority in the diaspora and should never be allowed to run a country?
@richard_merren @brian_gettler okay, you support an ethnostate for jews. Do Palestinians deserve an ethnostate?
@richard_merren @brian_gettler where are mixed people like me supposed to go? Or should we be illegal for confuzing your bronze age sensibilities
