Very sad to hear about the death of Paul Auster, a writer whose work I've loved for so long. I first bought—and read—The New York Trilogy in NYC (in the Strand Bookstore) and there was no way back after that. Was it really 7 years ago that he came to Edinburgh to talk with Nora Chassler about his magisterial novel 4 3 2 1? In an Austerian way, that brilliant event feels so close and yet a lifetime away. What a distinctive, compelling voice in literature.
